SOCIAL PRESCRIBING COURSES

Our Nordic Walking Social Prescribing Courses are a fun 6-week course of 6 x 1hr sessions. During these sessions, you will learn the full INWA 10 steps of Nordic Walking in detail with drills and lessons to perfect your technique.

 

To be eligible for our Social Prescribing Courses you will need to be referred to us by your GP surgery if you have not then please do speak to your Surgery first.  You should receive a  Course Details Form to fill in and return which will tell you what date your course will start.

What to wear -  Please wear comfortable clothes, trainers or walking shoes and layered clothing to suit the weather. Please, no open shoes, wellington boots or jeans.

 

What to bring - Water in a bottle with something to carry it (bear in mind you need to swing your arms) and a snack such as a cereal bar. Poles are provided for all sessions

(hydration waist packs to carry your water bottle are available to buy £15 please ask prior to your session)

Social Prescribing Courses Schedule

Meet & greet - optional (1 week before)

One week before we start our sessions you will be invited to pop along to the Surgery to meet Kelly your Nordic Walking instructor to have an informal chat about Nordic Walking.  She will be able to answer any concerns you may have and also if required help you register and book your Beginners Workshop. If you don't have a computer or find modern technology a struggle this is the time for you to come along and get help with this.

Week 1

Introduction to Nordic Walking and how it began

All about Nordic Walking Poles and how to use them safely

Learn steps 1 - 5 of Nordic Walking

​Week 2

Recap week 1 to make sure everyone is achieving steps 1 to 5

Learn steps 6 - 10 of Nordic Walking including drills to help with technique

​Week 3

Recap week 1 to make sure everyone is achieving steps 6 to 10

You will then be filmed Nordic Walking to help you see how your technique is progressing 

Drills to help with Technique

Week 4

Technique drills followed by hill technique

Week 5

Off for our first Nordic Walk being mindful of technique and incorporating drills and or intervals.

Week 6 

Going over what we have learnt and a celebration Nordic Walk - something special.

Please note the above may vary slightly due to the needs of the group

During your final sessions, your Instructor will also give you information about the different Nordic Walks that we offer, how to book them once your course has finished and how our Booking System works.

There is plenty of time to ask questions during the sessions and also after over coffee in the cafe.  If there is anything worrying you about starting to Nordic Walk with us please do get in touch and don't forget you don't need to be fit to Nordic Walk.

Once you have completed a Beginners Course.  You will now be able to browse the Walk Kernow schedule and choose what walks you would like to join.
